Frequently Asks Questions

What is the purpose of the Day Hike app?

Day Hike is a mobile app designed to enhance your outdoor adventure experience. It serves as a social platform for outdoor enthusiasts to connect, share their experiences, discover new places and activities, and stay connected with their communities around them.

What is the beacon function and how do I use it?

The beacon feature is a tool that allows you to share your real-time location with selected contacts while doing an activity or to let users know what activity you are going to do. You can activate it within the app and invite friends to join on your activity.

What is the difference between creating and activity and activating my beacon?

Creating an activity is for planned events with specific details, such as the time, location, and number of participants. Activating your beacon, on the other hand, is for spontaneous, casual gatherings. It lets your friends see your location in real-time, join you, and communicate easily through a group chat that is automatically created as people join your outing.

How do I turn my beacon off?

Your beacon is set to automatically turn off after 4 hours. If you do not want your beacon on anymore you have to open up the app and toggle it off in the upper right hand corner of your home feed page.

How accurate is the navigation feature in the app?

Our navigation feature uses reliable mapping data to show your beacon location, but it's essential to have a backup navigation plan, especially in remote areas. Always exercise caution and use your judgment when going off the grid.

How do I discover new people to connect with?

You can discover new people to connect with by exploring the app's search and discovery features. On the discovery page you can search for specific users , browse through groups, or explore activities related to your interests. To find users outside of your area click on the filter toggle and customize your range. Day Hike will only show your friends and people in your location unless you change or expand your location.

How can I add a friend?

To add a friend on Day Hike, simply search for their username or full name within the search bar on the home feed screen of discovery. Click on the orange add friend button on their profile. And once they accept, you will get a notification and be able to chat with them in the app. All friend requests are in your chat box.

How do I set my notifications?

You can customize your notification settings by going to the app's menu, then click on notification settings. There, you can choose which notifications you want to receive and how frequently.

Can I control who sees my posts and updates?
